16/12/2009 - Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all the residents and visitors to our Town. From everyone at the Beaudesert and Henley-in-Arden Parish Council.
11/11/2009 - First phase of the Market Cross project completed on schedule. Residents congratulate Parish Council for discovering the Seal of Henley-in-Arden.
The most important task of the Market Cross project was to undertake the badly needed conservation work for the 15th century monument. Having received approval from the Secretary of State for Culture and from the English Heritage work began in earnest by a conservation company and this work has now been completed. In partnership with Warwickshire County Council we can now proceed with improving the area around the Market Cross. Following this, an Information Board will be placed close to the monument and one metre high railings will be installed around the monument for its safekeeping. The whole project should be completed by January/February 2010.
The Seal of Henley-in-Arden
Residents congratulated the Council for discovering the Seal of Henley-in-Arden. From the feedback that we have received so far the general view is that the Seal should be returned to its place of origin and should be kept in the Heritage Centre. The Council will reach a decision on this issue in the near future.
13/10/2009 - The 15th century Market Cross monument - A BIG thank you The Parish Council's coffee morning at the Guildhall on Saturday 3 October for the benefit of the Market Cross was a resounding success. Thanks to you all, £400 was raised. Les Goodman the Chairman of the Parish Council was delighted with the result and said that the people of Henley-in-Arden once again have shown their generosity. Also Roger Sutton the High Bailiff, presented a cheque for £300 to the Council for the benefit of the conservation of the Market Cross and the Beaudesert and Henley Society is having a Cheese and Wine evening at the Guildhall on Saturday 14 November at 7.30 pm in support of the Market Cross project (tickets at £5.50 are available from Dukes Stationers and Lesley Eastwood tel. 793647)
The status of the project as at 13 October 2009 is:
• The purchase order for the Information Board has been placed and we expect the installation to take place in the next 5-6 weeks. • On 8 October 2009 the Secretary of State Culture, Media and Sports approved our Application to undertake conservation works on our Market Cross which is a protected 'scheduled monument'. We shall place a purchase order with a Stone Conservation company in the next few days. We are working in partnership with Mr. Ian George, English Heritage on this matter. • A letter of intent will be placed in the near future with a local company for the 1 metre height railings around the market Cross. • The final arrangements for enhancing the area around the market cross will be discussed with Warwickshire County Council (WCC) on Friday 16 October. We are working in partnership with Mr. Paul Cowley of WCC on this matter.
Cllr George Matheou, the chairman of the Business and Employment Committee which is managing this project, said that although to a large extent our work depends on the timetable of suppliers and partners, everything that can be done to complete this project this year, will be done. =====================================================================

11/07/2009 - Beaudesert and Henley-in-Arden NEEDS YOU
VOLUNTARY EMERGENCY WARDENS
Would you be willing to help other residents in the event of an emergency? - Then we need your help!
We all remember the floods of 2007. The Parish Council is preparing a strategy to help all of our residents whose homes and businesses are at risk. To make this happen we need Wardens if a flood (or other emergency) is declared.
We need people to help in a number of ways. If you are able bodied - it could be helping to distribute sand bags or other emergency supplies. In the event of homes being evacuated, you could be asked to make hot drinks or prepare food at community centres around the town. Even being able to compile lists and keep records is a useful skill. Many of us witnessed the awful results to homes and businesses of the 2007 floods and whilst we cannot guarantee that it will not happen again, what we can do is ensure we are well-prepared.
If you would like to add your name to the list of volunteers, please contact Jenny Walsh, Parish Clerk, on 01564 795499 or call into the Parish Council Office, 150 High Street, Henley between 8am and 4pm Monday to Friday.
Henley in Arden Tennis Club ladies turned back the clock on Wednesday night with a wooden rackets tournament.
Skirts were to be worn below the knee, and orange balls to slow play were introduced, but those who thought this would bring out the genteel side of our competitive ladies were wrong!!
The match was eventually won by Linda Lardner and Annette Walker beating Sarah Rowen, Ladies Captain and Judith Mathias Club Secretary, in a thrilling 11-9 tie break, watched by the other ladies sipping their pink champagne!
After the prize giving everyone enjoyed a feast of cucumber sandwiches, smoked salmon and eton mess, agreeing that the evening would be repeated next year.
Henley are holding a second Open Day on 28 June at 12 noon, when they will be playing the finals of their Club Championships. Potential members are welcome to try the courts and join in the fun. For more details please contact club secretary Judith Mathias 01564 792378.
The Parish Council had two reasons to celebrate 23rd April. First, was St. George's day. Second, the four Welcome to Henley-in-Arden signs were ready and installed on Birmingham, Stratford, New (Redditch) and Warwick roads.
Councillor Roger Hubbocks who undertook this project with assistance from Councillor Les Goodman said we had first to work with Nuneaton signs art department to produce the crest for the signs. There were no records in the archives neither in Henley nor in the history museum of Warwick library on the crests used on the old signs. We had to work from photos taken to create the crest.
With the assistance from Malcolm Wright of Henley Metal Products they removed old signs and poles and broke up large pieces of concrete to enable them to fit new poles and assemble all the new signs. The Welcome sign on the Warwick road was not replaced but Councillor Roger Hubbocks with help from Val Johnston cleaned and repainted the lettering and the crest to bring it to the same standard of the other signs. Both councillors would like to thank Malcolm Wright for his help as the job could not have been done without him. Councillor Roger Hubbocks said we are satisfied with the result of our work. We now have good clear signs to welcome visitors coming into our town.

Great Western Developments LLB (GED has been given Permission with Conditions by the Stratford District Council (SDC) to proceed with the re-development of the station buildings. The Parish Council is now anxious to work in partnership with the Shakespeare Line Promotion Group, GED, the Railway Companies, SDC and Warwickshire County Council (WCC) to ensure that the development proceeds in a timely manner. Sheila Roy the chairman of the Parish Council stated that an important milestone has now been achieved and we must now focus our attention on the whole Railway Site including the Bridge and the ‘access for all' which the central government is financing. We must promote our local station and increase its utilisation. This is a win-win situation. It will good for our town, good for transport and good for the reduction in CO2 and climate change. We are ready to talk to Network Rail and WCC to explore all options for providing more parking facilities for the railway users.
16/01/2009 - Wonderful News from our Henley-in-Arden Tennis Club
The Henley-in-Arden Tennis Club is up for Triple Honours. They have been nominated in three categories at the forthcoming WLTA awards to be held on 23rd January at the Botanical Gardens, Birmingham. They are especially pleased to hear that their Head Coach Sarah Baker, who joined the club over 10 years ago and has been responsible for their vibrant junior section, has been nominated as Coach of the Year. In fact at their AGM last week Sarah mentioned in her report that 2 of the 4 coaches at Henley joined her first as 7 year olds and how gratified she was that they had developed such a love for the game and have gone on to do their DCA (Development Coach Award) qualifications. Sarah runs courses for all levels of juniors at the club every Saturday morning, ably assisted by her helpers, who have all qualified through coaching assistants courses. Phone (07970) 252750 to register. Henley has also been nominated as Club of the year and their Chairman, Judy Wilde has been nominated as Volunteer of the year.
